    The Assistant Superintendent coordinates field operations for specific areas and/or specific self-performed and subcontracted trades on a project. Assistant Superintendents ensure that construction work is completed according to a project’s planned sequence and schedule, and implement and enforce pertinent safety and quality control procedures. Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate installation of work in accordance with the contract documents, project schedule and the planned sequence of work. Be aware of project milestone dates and the requirements to achieve them Have thorough knowledge of the Contract Documents and the scope of work for the specific area(s) or trade(s) assigned Develop an understanding of the duration of each activity Apply knowledge of equipment capability and develop plans for optimum utilization Know the scheduled delivery dates for all material and equipment that have a direct effect on the area(s)/trade(s) assigned Supervise field work force to assure that all work is put in place in the most cost effective manner. Know the budgets for work that is being supervised. Determine causes and develop remedies when costs are not in line with budget, estimate, and/or reasonable expectations Implement the safety program. Conduct regular, scheduled and unscheduled, safety inspections to assure all working conditions and work habits are in compliance with company and government standards. Take remedial action when required. Establish a procedure for hazard recognition at the beginning of every new activity. The Physical Side of the Role: This is an active, hands-on role. You can expect to be on your feet frequently, navigating active job sites with uneven terrain, stairs, ladders, and hoists. The work is physically demanding and requires a full range of motion, including bending, kneeling, and reaching. You’ll need to be comfortable frequently lifting and carrying materials up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. This role requires the ability to communicate effectively, as well as visual acuity for reading plans and inspecting work. The role does include desk time in the office that may require prolonged periods of sitting for tasks like computer work, document review, and meetings. Your Work Environment: You’ll spend a significant amount of your time on active construction sites, which means being adaptable to all kinds of weather and moderate to loud noise levels, and comfortable in elevated or confined work areas with moving mechanical equipment and with the fast-paced nature of a project in progress. You will also spend time in a typical office setting with moderate noise levels. Own employee relations strategy for the site, overseeing investigations, disciplinary action, performance concerns, and conflict resolution. Coach and develop managers on performance management, documentation, and difficult conversations. Location: Green Cove Springs, FL (job sites throughout the region) Employment type: Full-time Reports to: Survey Manager / Project Superintendent Pay: Competitive, based on experience Vallencourt is a family-owned construction company headquartered in Green Cove Springs. Our crews build the ground that projects stand on, and accurate layout keeps every phase on grade and on schedule. As Party Chief, you will run a survey crew day to day. You will handle construction staking and as-builts. What you'll do Lead a 2–3 person survey crew, assigning daily tasks and keeping the crew productive and safe. Perform construction layout and staking for clearing limits, grades, curbs, roadways, storm, sanitary sewer, water mains and building pads. Set and verify horizontal and vertical control, benchmarks and offsets. Run robotic total stations, GNSS/RTK rovers and optical levels, and keep equipment calibrated and in good condition. Build and check site models and machine-control files, and support GPS-equipped dozers, graders and excavators in the field. Collect topographic, as-built and quantity data, including pond, stockpile and earthwork volumes. Read and interpret civil plans, profiles, cross-sections and specifications, and flag conflicts to the superintendent before work proceeds. Coordinate staking requests with superintendents and foremen so crews are never waiting on layout. Keep accurate field notes, cut sheets and daily reports, and upload data for office processing. Train and mentor instrument operators and rodmen. Follow company safety policies, OSHA standards and MOT/traffic control requirements on active sites. What you bring Required 5+ years of construction or land survey experience, including at least 2 years as a Party Chief or lead instrument operator. Hands-on experience with robotic total stations and GNSS/RTK equipment (Trimble, Leica, Topcon or similar). Working knowledge of data collector software such as Trimble Access or Siteworks. Strong plan-reading skills and a solid grasp of survey math, grades, slopes and coordinate geometry. Ability to lead a crew, communicate clearly with field supervisors and work independently. Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Work conditions This is an outdoor field role on active construction sites in Florida heat, humidity and rain.
